I love using Lightroom presets in the Adobe Lightroom App! But did you know that you can design your presets too? It’s super fun and it’s a great way to add your own touch to your photos or Instagram feed.
If you’re looking for some presets to make, I made some step-by-step tutorials for some of my favorite presets that I designed myself! Take a look:
My free preset tutorial:
In this post, I’m going to teach you how to turn your set of edits into an actual preset that you can reuse. So let’s get on with it!
How To Make Lightroom Presets In The Lightroom App
Click here to skip right to the directions to make a preset! Or click here to learn how to find and use it!
What is a preset?
When you make Lightroom presets, you need to already have made edits to an image that you’d like to turn into a preset.
A preset is a grouping of edits that you can use on different images to get a cohesive look. Here’s an example of some photos that I have used a preset on:
This is my preset Autumn Leaves, which you can find and make for free here.
As you can see, there is a very similar look and cohesive look to these images. That’s because presets essentially ‘copy and paste’ the settings from one photo to another, which makes each image have the same type of edits.
Once you have a set of edits that you’d like to turn into a preset, you’re ready to go.
The steps
Here’s the steps to turn your edits in Lightroom into a preset:
Click the circle with three dots in the top right hand corner of the screen.
Select ‘create preset.’
Select the options that you want to transfer to a preset.
Typically, the selections that are already checked off with a blue box are all you need. However, there can be exceptions.
If you’re creating one of my presets, the things that are selected by default are all that you need. But if you want to be sure, you can check off everything. It won’t do you any bad.
Name your preset.
Come up with a creative name for your new preset!
Click the check in the upper right hand corner.

Using your preset
Now that you have made your preset, how do you find and use it? It’s super simple!
Take a look towards the bottom of your screen where all the tools are located. Swipe left over the tools so that you get to the tools on the right end.
Next, select the ‘presets’ option.
Scroll up or down to find your preset! You may have just one, or you can have many (like I do LOL!)
To use whatever preset you want, all you have to do is click on it. It’s as easy as that.
And like I said below when I was talking about what a preset is, the preset will sort of copy & paste your edits from one image to another to get a cohesive look.
How cool!
And like I said…
