Coconut Oil

7 Unique Ways To Use Coconut Oil

I’ve had coconut oil around the house for years. Initially, I wanted to use it to grow out my eyebrows after I learned that thicker eyebrows were the “trend.” However, as I began to use it more and more, I discovered other great uses for it. I’m going to share with you 7 unique ways to use coconut oil that will save you tons of time and money!

What are some unique ways to use coconut oil?

Coconut Oil

1. Eyebrow and eyelash growth

As I mentioned before, I used coconut oil to help me grow out my eyebrows and eyelashes, and BOY DID IT WORK! In the morning and before I went to bed I would quickly apply a little bit to each area, and within no time I saw visible results.

I can personally say that I’ve seen this work magic! Although I’m now satisfied with my eyebrows and eyelashes, I still use it time to time if I want that extra boost or growth.

2. Makeup remover

I’ve never come across a makeup product that coconut oil couldn’t move! Personally, I have really straight (almost pointing down) eyelashes so I use waterproof mascara to hold the curl all day.

Still, the coconut oil removes it effortlessly!

Whenever I run out of makeup wipes, this is always my backup option. (I prefer makeup wipes just because they are a bit less messy, but this is still great!)

This also kind of goes along with eyebrow and eyelash growth as well. I have a friend who has insanely long eyelashes, and when I asked her what her secret was to achieving this, she told me that every night she removes her mascara with coconut oil!

3. Hair mask

Clearly, as seen with the eyelashes and eyebrows, coconut oil has great impacts on hair. However, did you know you can also use it as a hair mask?

I have done this numerous times and I love the results!

First, let me explain my natural hair:

  • Frizzy
  • A tiny bit damaged (from heat)
  • Dull (not shiny)

However, after the mask, my hair is so shiny (yet not greasy looking) and I barely have any frizz. Plus, it takes away any looks of damage!

All I do is take a scoop of coconut oil and rub it all in my hair like it’s shampoo. Then, I let it sit for about half an hour to an hour, rinse it out, then carry on with regular shampoo and conditioner. (You can also put a shower cap in and sleep with the mask in overnight and wash it out in the morning!)

Coconut oil hair masks can also make your hair softer and help it to grow.

It’s safe to say that these hair masks are a win!

4. Makeup

Makeup?! Yup – you heard that right!

You might be wondering…how can you use coconut oil as makeup?

I actually use it as a natural looking highlighter!

Trust me on this one, if you use the right amount (which is an extremely tiny amount), coconut oil can look SO beautiful on the skin!

I like to place a tiny bit on my cheekbone, the tip of my nose, my inner eye, and below my eyebrows. It is so natural looking, and it especially looks good for natural makeup looks, which I tend to use it for.

If you’re concerned about acne or oiliness, for me, it has never caused either.

My skin is combination, and it can sometimes get a bit oily in the t-zone, but I have never noticed it make my skin more oily. For some reason, it always seems to look less oily to me!

As for acne, I do have acne prone skin. However, not once have I seen anything pop up where I’ve put the oil.

I’m not sure how it would be for others, but take your skin type into consideration! For me, I’ve had no issue.

5. Moisturizer

Coconut oil is a GREAT moisturizer.

Although you should be careful because it is an oil and can be a bit greasy if over applied, it can definitely help moisturize.

Do you have dry hands? Dry legs? Use coconut oil!

Personally, my elbows get super dry, so I will sometimes put this oil on it before I go to bed. In the morning it’s baby smooth!

6. Lip balm

Following the same idea as the others, coconut oil is very moisturizing.

Therefore, it’s also a great lip balm.

Not only can you apply coconut oil bare to your lips, but you can also make lip balms using it!

You can also make lip scrubs too!

7. Face primer

Coconut oil can be a great face primer because it softens the skin.

This leaves a great base to later apply makeup!

The smooth base left behind by the oil is perfect to lay concealer or foundation on top of because it will reduce texture, resulting in a more flawless finish or complexion.

Pin it for later!
